Brewing Guide

Clean Equipment

Coffee oils tend to collect on brewing equipment. If not cleaned off regularly, these oils become burnt solids (known as “coffee tars”). Coffee tars are bitter tasting and may partially dissolve in contact with freshly brewed coffee, giving it an unpleasant flavor.

Follow these steps for cleaning brewing equipment:

  • Each day, wipe all metal surfaces with a clean damp cloth
  • Each day, use de-liming spring to keep supply tube from tank to sprayhead clear of build up.
  • Once a week, clean with appropriate agent (urn cleaner), especially hard-to-reach areas.
    • Sprayheads
    • Brew baskets
    • Dispensing faucets
    • Coffee bowls/pots
